Single Cell is a new collective record label based in Manchester. We support social & environmental campaigns with our releases and events, and bring you diverse, conscious sounds across genres.
Single Cell Records and Defunkles debut EP launch party: Contact Theatre, Oxford Rd, Manchester – Sunday 3rd June, 4pm til 11pm. With… Live/Laptop sets DJ Set Pendle Coven (Modern Love) Dom, (Blood and Fire Sound System) Defunkles (Single Cell) Longshot (Drum Music) I-Mitri (CounterAction) Hoods (Hoodlum Tribe) Tanante (Drum Roots) plus more local folk to be confirmed. There's a free Defunkles mix CD and free entry before 6pm. Defunkles EP: ‘Shape Yer Self/Tender Is The Nitis’ myspace.com/singlecellrecordings Defunkles debut EP offers up Mariachi-style trumpets, Sufi laments, epic space funk and warehouse party-style heavy breaks and bass. Defunkles met when producing the political documentary ‘This Is Camp X-Ray’ (2004). Their first track was released on the Solid Earth compilation album – an endeavour to raise money for the people of Darfur, western Sudan.
